We work on Augmented Reality (AR) for medical applications. AR has the potential to bridge current gaps in computer-assisted interventions, by transferring radiological imaging data and navigation information in three dimensions directly into the current clinical situation and onto the patient for in-situ visualization. This display of image data directly within the view of the operating physician effectively permits „X-ray vision“, leading to improved ergonomics, better focus, and safer and faster interventions.
Our group is developing a system which leverages AR for in-situ visualization and navigation in medical procedures involving the head and face. We focus on cost-effective, wearable AR devices, to keep the requirements of our system in terms of hardware, technical knowledge and setup time as simple as possible, to deliver a solution which is more accessible and practical than existing systems.
