## **************************Kiambu launches digital surgery platform to connect local doctors with global specialists**************************

Kiambu County in Kenya launched a Proximie-enabled digital surgery and telemedicine platform at Kiambu Level Five Hospital. The platform equips operating theatres with cameras and communication systems that allow remote specialists to observe, guide, support and review live surgical procedures. During the launch, officials observed a live caesarean section with medical teams connected across county facilities and the United Kingdom. The workflow supports local surgeons during complex cases, creates a digital record for quality improvement and enables medical students, nurses and other clinicians to observe procedures remotely. The implementation addresses a major system-level problem: limited access to specialist surgical expertise outside referral centers. For patients, the model could reduce the need for travel and allow local hospitals to manage more cases with remote backup.

## ********************************Virtua Health’s post-discharge program cuts readmissions, shortens stays********************************

Virtua Health operationalized a post-discharge digital care model focused on the high-risk 24-to-72-hour period after hospital discharge. The Care After Discharge program combines continuous biometric monitoring, medication reconciliation, rapid physician follow-up, appointment scheduling, home visits by emergency medical technicians or paramedics, virtual pharmacy consultations and 24/7 command center access. The model builds on Virtua’s hospital-at-home infrastructure and has scaled from a small early census to thousands of patients across home-based and post-discharge programs. Reported results include a one-day reduction in length of stay, single-digit readmission rates and statistically significant readmission reductions for acute myocardial infarction, COPD, pneumonia and congestive heart failure. The program also revealed social and logistical barriers that conventional hospital workflows often miss, such as absent medications, missing equipment and unrecognized home health eligibility. Its next phase includes in-room cameras, ambient sensors and wearable biosensor patches across hospital rooms.

## ****************Boston Children’s Hospital Embeds Enterprise AI Infrastructure for Clinical Discovery and Operational Efficiency****************

Boston Children’s Hospital implemented a secure enterprise AI layer across clinical, research and administrative workflows, moving beyond isolated AI pilots into operational infrastructure. The hospital uses an internal ChatGPT environment to support rare disease diagnosis, surgical scheduling, supply chain invoice processing, documentation, research synthesis and more than 50 automation workflows. Clinicians remain central to decision-making, with AI used to integrate genetic data, phenotypic information and medical literature in rare disease cases. The implementation has produced unusually concrete outcomes: more than 40 previously unresolved rare conditions diagnosed, around 60,000 hours saved and more than $7 million in redeployed labor. More than one-third of employees reportedly use AI in daily work, indicating broad organizational adoption rather than a narrow pilot. Governance is described as being built alongside the technology, including safety monitoring and evaluation.

CommonSpirit Health, UC San Diego Health and Houston Methodist are presented as scaled examples of digital care delivery transformation rather than isolated pilots. CommonSpirit’s Virtually Integrated Care model uses Epic-embedded in-room cameras and interactive monitors to pair bedside nurses with remote virtual registered nurses. These virtual nurses handle documentation, admissions, discharges, medication reconciliation and patient education, allowing bedside staff to focus on direct care. UC San Diego Health’s transition-of-care clinic uses telehealth to support moderate- and high-risk patients after discharge, while Houston Methodist uses remote patient monitoring and biometric telemetry routed to command centers. Reported results are strong: CommonSpirit reached more than 800,000 virtual visits, reduced first-year RN voluntary turnover by 43%, reduced emergency department hold hours by 21%, lowered CLABSI and CAUTI rates by 37%, and improved nurse communication scores. UC San Diego’s model reduced 30-day readmissions versus a benchmark cohort. Privacy controls include video consent protocols before virtual nurse entry.

## ************************************NHS England Rolls Out EHR-Integrated Ambient AI Scribe Across Primary and Secondary Care in the Midlands: A Real-Time Qualitative Evaluation************************************

The scribe was used to automate clinical note-taking, but the study highlights that deployment varied significantly by setting because general practice and hospital care use documentation differently. Clinicians reported improved interaction with patients in some cases, but they also had to adapt how they spoke so the AI could capture clinical reasoning. The article identifies important implementation risks, including generic outputs, defensive documentation and reduced personal context in notes. It also compares stand-alone versus integrated systems, noting that stand-alone tools may be easier to adopt but integrated tools offer greater long-term safety and efficiency potential.
