## AI Could Transform Health Care, but Will It Live Up to the Hype?

Digital twins for personalized health forecasting, AI-driven antibiotic discovery, mental health chatbots, autonomous surgical robots, AI-enabled wearables for health monitoring, and risk prediction systems for conditions like sepsis. While these technologies show promise for improving healthcare access and outcomes, researchers emphasize significant challenges remain, including data privacy concerns, the need for rigorous validation, transparency in AI decision-making, and ensuring equitable access. The article notes that while many of these technologies are still in early development stages, they could revolutionize healthcare delivery if technical and ethical hurdles are overcome.

## Physicians Reveal Outlooks and Concerns About Use of AI in Medical Care

A University of Kansas study surveying over 500 physicians and physician assistants in Kansas found that healthcare professionals’ main concerns about AI adoption center on liability and responsibility issues, as well as potential reduction in patient interaction quality. Surprisingly, these concerns were consistent regardless of participants’ AI familiarity level. The study suggests that while AI is currently used in limited capacities like research and diagnostics, future applications could include AI avatars of doctors providing medical advice through phones or computers. However, implementation would require addressing legal, liability, and economic challenges.

## Telemedicine Improved Physician Satisfaction and Patient Care Quality During COVID, Study Shows

A new Binghamton University study analyzing data from 1,875 physicians found that telemedicine adoption during COVID-19 enhanced both quality of patient care and physician satisfaction. Key features contributing to physician satisfaction included videoconferencing and integration with electronic health records. The research, based on the 2021 National Electronic Health Records Survey, suggests telemedicine will remain a valuable healthcare delivery option post-pandemic, particularly for reducing costs and serving patients in remote areas. This represents a significant shift from pre-pandemic attitudes when telemedicine was used sparingly by physicians.
